India is believed to be the originator of cannabis. Cannabis in India has a pleasure, traditional medicine, and religious purposes. The first known reference to marijuana in India dates as far back as the second millennium B.C. Copious amounts of the cannabis beverage “bhang” is openly distributed at the Hindu Holi Celebration, also called the Festival of Colors. Cannabis can be seen almost everywhere in India and there are no gang robbing or cartels for cannabis. The use is not allowed and legal in some parts of the country and the law is hardly enforced.
